For more than a decade, the LAFD Foundation has channeled community support into tangible resources that enhance the LAFD’s ability to keep Los Angeles safe. This support is the backbone of the LAFD Foundation’s success. Donor dollars fund essential equipment, advanced technology, and vital programs that improve functionality and safety across the Department.
provided in tools and equipment to the LAFD over the past four years
utilized from every dollar received to fuel the Foundation’s mission
From life-saving equipment to advanced technology, every contribution strengthens the LAFD’s ability to serve and safeguard the Los Angeles community.
With the help of the Annenberg and Wasserman Foundations, the Foundation was able to equip every LAFD firefighter with two new pairs of gloves that offer maximum grip and dexterity while protecting against exposure to chemicals, carcinogens, heat, and direct flames.
Thanks to donor support, the LAFD is the first in the nation to add a robotic firefighting vehicle to its fleet. The RS3 robot, deployed to more than 30 incidents in 2024, is capable of releasing 2,500 gallons per minute and is remotely operated with a controller, providing high-definition video feedback and reducing firefighter safety risks in particularly dangerous situations.
This program is uniquely designed to improve living and working conditions at all 106 LAFD fire stations across Los Angeles. During the 2023-2024 fiscal year, the LAFD Foundation fulfilled more than $1.3 million in fire station grant requests, ranging from appliances like refrigerators and extractors to necessary upgrades for aging stations.
Thermal imaging cameras were provided by the LAFD Foundation to every single LAFD firefighter, catalyzed by the Los Angeles wildfires that impacted the city in January 2025. Community support for this purchase helped the LAFD become the first fire department in the country to provide thermal imaging cameras for every single firefighter.
During the wildfires that devasted Los Angeles in January 2025, the LAFD Foundation released a funding alert for urgently needed items. Hydration backpacks were a part of that initial list, and immediate donor support ensured that the Foundation could quickly purchase and deploy enough for every LAFD firefighter on the frontlines.
In 2023, the LAFD recognized an increase in calls for emergency medical services (EMS). In response, the LAFD Foundation equipped the LAFD with two new 24-hour staffed Fast Response Vehicles (FRVs). With the ability to treat patients on-site, provide medical referrals, and pump water, these multi-mission resources have relieved other LAFD resources more than 16,000 times.
Thanks to donor support, the LAFD is the first Department in the nation to add a robotic firefighting vehicle to its fleet of apparatus.
